- "Banthas or sand cats allowed"
- ―A restriction note on a menu sign
Sand cats were a type of cat.[1] In 9 ABY,[2] a menu sign written in Aurebesh at the fake dining establishment The Restraining Bolt within Mos Espa Waystation, a battlefield inspired by[1] the planet[3] Tatooine that was located in the Grand Arena on the planet Vespaara, stated that the building allowed both banthas and sand cats.[1]

Sand cats were mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the video game Star Wars: Hunters, which was developed by NaturalMotion's BossAlien[1] and published by Zynga initially on November 16, 2021, as a soft launch,[4] before the global release on June 4, 2024.[5] The game was later shut down on October 1, 2025.[6] The mention of sand cats was added to the game following the release of Mos Espa Waystation as one of its playable maps on March 7, 2023.[7] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, sand cats were first mentioned in the 2004 novel MedStar I: Battle Surgeons, which was authored by Michael Reaves and Steve Perry.[8]
