Samala Loené was a female pilot who served in the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the lead-up to the Galactic Civil War. Assigned the callsign of Red Leader, she was the leader of Red Flight, a group of T-65B X-wing starfighters. Around 1 BBY,^[2] Loené, along with three other pilots from Red Flight, was deployed to assist Extraction Team Bravo in the Wobani system.^[1]

Samala Loené appeared as a non-playable character named only "Sam" in the 2016 Star Wars Battlefront: Rogue One: X-wing VR Mission, a downloadable virtual reality add-on to the 2015 canon video game Star Wars Battlefront.^[1] The character received her full name, Samala Loené, in the 2021 canon reference book Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy.^[3]
