Rocket pack

Rocket packs were an aerial personal transportation device used across the the galaxy that differed technologically from jet packs.

Characteristics

Rocket packs were self-contained personal conveyances that created directed thrust by regulating the mixture of a large amount of combustible chemicals.^[1] The units used premixed fuel and did not require oxygen to operate like jetpacks.^[2] Because of this design, rocket packs were fully capable of operating in zero, low, or high atmosphere and provided a better "all-environment" flight capability as a result when compared to jetpacks, as the latter required atmosphere to operate.^[1]

Typically, rocket packs were faster than jetpacks, although they were heavier and louder during operation.^[1] Despite this, rocket packs offered comparable performance to jetpacks,^[2] and were considered to be more reliable, leading to their use with military forces.^[3] Rocket packs tended to be more expensive to purchase.^[2]

Due to weight and size restrictions, rocket packs needed to use rapid-burning elements. This meant that rocket packs had limited flight duration. If rocket packs were ruptured or damaged, the unit was at risk of detonation due to the leaking of explosive chemicals.^[1]

Rocket packs were most well known for being employed by the Rocket-Jumper Elite Advance Unit, who used the Zim Systems ROCKET personal rocket pack. Another type of rocket pack was used by rocket battle droids during the Clone Wars.
