The Return of the Jedi: The Storybook Based on the Movie was published by Random House in May 1983. It was adapted by Joan D. Vinge.[1]
In 1983, this book's paperback edition was sold with The Star Wars Storybook and The Empire Strikes Back Storybook in a box set titled Star Wars Treasury.[4] Editions released in the UK were titled Return of the Jedi: The Storybook Based on the Film.

Like other earlier adaptations of the film, the book includes the cut scene of Luke Skywalker leaping up and hanging from the grate above the rancor, complete with a photo.
