The Resistance Army was a military branch containing the ground forces of the Resistance, a military resistance movement founded by General Leia Organa to defend the New Republic after it refused to take the threat of the First Order. The Resistance army saw action during the Battle of Crait and Battle of Exegol.
Description
The Resistance Army[5] were the ground forces of the Resistance, an independent outfit dedicated to defending the New Republic and upholding democracy and freedom. It was based at the Resistance base on D'Qar. Officer ranks within the army were Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Commander, Colonel, and General. Ranking members of the Resistance army could be identified by a badge with red markings. Due to the limited manpower and resources of the Resistance, personnel in both the Resistance army and Resistance navy sometimes rotated roles.[1]
Organization
The core of the Resistance army were the Resistance troopers,[7] the army also counted with specialized units such as the rocket-jumpers, Wookiee warriors,[6] medics[10] and scouts.[2] Commonly during the battle the army was led by military officers[10] The rarity of skilled personal lead to the army and navy often switching service branches. One example was the doing evacuation of D'Qar, where the soldiers present on the MC85 Star Cruiser Raddus was assigned to shipboard security as bridge guard.[4] A short time later, the navy repaid the favor, when the pilots flew army V-4X-D ski speeders during the Battle of Crait.[2]
Vehicles and machinery
Artillery emplacement on Crait.
The Resistance army was equipped with several artillery emplacements, including the V-120 artillery emplacement, the V-232 artillery emplacement,[4] and the DF.12 Com Turret.[14]
The army was also equipped with planetary shield generators.[2] The Resistance army had several vehicles in their possession, including V-4X-D ski speeders,[9] Gian-211 patrol speeders.[1] the old Imperial All Terrain Scout Transports,[6] the stolen 125-Z treadspeeder bike,[15] and the stolen Light Infantry Utility Vehicle.[16]
Weapons and equipment
Resistance army personnel were equipped with blaster pistols and blaster rifles. Blaster pistol models used by the army included DT-15 blaster pistols,[4] Glie-44 blaster pistols, and DH-17 blaster pistols.[10] The Resistance also had a few NN-14 blaster pistols.[17] Rifles used were EL-16 blaster rifles, EL-16HFE blaster rifles,[1] DH-17 blaster rifles,[2] and "Roba" M-45 repeating ion blasters.[6]
Members of the Resistance army were also outfitted with thermal detonators,[10] comlinks,[2] TE4.4 field quadnoculars, and RM-45 ammunition and tool pouches.[4]
History
Shortly after the First Order utilized their superweapon, Starkiller Base, to destroy the Hosnian system, which was the home of the New Republic, Resistance forces engaged First Order forces on Takodana in an attempt to secure BB-8, a BB-series astromech droid who carried the map to Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi.[10] The Resistance Army's soldiers fought with distinction during the battle,[18] and escorted General Leia Organa to the surface. Ultimately, Resistance forces retrieved BB-8.[10]

Following the Resistance Starfighter Corps's successful mission to destroy Starkiller Base,[10] the Resistance sustained heavy casualties during the Evacuation of D'Qar and the subsequent chase through hyperspace by the First Order Navy. During the chase, Resistance troopers were assigned to the bridge of the MC85 Star Cruiser Raddus to be security in case of any breakdown of order.[4] After evacuating the Raddus, the surviving members of the Resistance fled to the former Rebel Alliance outpost on the planet Crait in six U-55 orbital loadlifters.[2]
When First Order ground forces led by the new Supreme Leader Kylo Ren landed on Crait to destroy the Resistance, Resistance soldiers under General Caluan Ematt manned the trenches outside the Resistance outpost. During the Battle of Crait, the Resistance also deployed V-4X-D ski speeders against the First Order's walkers but were forced to retreat by the First Order's superlaser siege cannon. While the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker distracted Ren, the surviving members of the Resistance military escaped aboard the Millennium Falcon with the last Jedi Rey and Chewbacca.[2]
Following the escape from Crait, the Resistance personnel aboard the Falcon hid out within the Ryloth Defense Authority's base on the planet Ryloth, where they gathered their strength and allies until being discovered by the First Order. Forced to flee,[19] the Resistance eventually established a camp on the planet Anoat,[20] a base on the planet Batuu, and a base on the world of Pacara[21] before finally settling into a a new base[3] on the planet Ajan Kloss.[22] By the time of the blockade of Kashyyyk,[23] historian Beaumont Kin had joined the Resistance, within which he served as an army trooper and member of Resistance Intelligence.[22] Poe Dameron and Finn also reached the rank of Generals in the Resistance hierarchy. During the Battle of Exegol, General Finn led a landing party consisting of Resistance soldiers, Company 77, and orbaks during an attack on the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Steadfast, which was guiding the Sith Eternal's fleet, the Final Order. Their efforts contributed to the defeat of Darth Sidious' plans to establish a new Sith Empire.[3]
