Ren-Quarr was a Quarren[1] barfly[3] with orange skin[2] and well-groomed tentacles. He frequented the Outlander Club,[1] a nightclub and gambling hall located in the Uscru Entertainment District of the[4] planet[5] Coruscant,[4] prior to the outbreak of the Clone Wars[1] in 22 BBY.[6]

During a night[2] in that year,[6] he was present in the Outlander Club as Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker entered, searching for bounty hunter Zam Wesell.[2] As Skywalker walked around the club, he[2] lurked[3] behind[2] the Twi'lek Lunae Minx and the criminal Achk Med-Beq.[3] Being a Quarren, Ren-Quarr's species added to the interplanetary feel of the club on that night.[7] He wore dark colored clothing while at the club.[2]

Behind the scenes

"Given that Squid Heads are known as Quarren, this barfly's name is more akin to a nonalien character introducing himself as “Mann Hugh""
―Daniel Wallace[3]

Ren-Quarr first appeared in the 2002 prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.[2] The Outlander Club scenes including Ren-Quarr were shot at Fox Studios, Sydney on July 17, 2000.[8] Prior to the film's release, the character was first pictured in the documentary "A Twinkle Beyond Pluto,"[9] released on July 31, 2001.[10]

The character's name first appeared in the 2003 article "Cantina Roll-Call: Shedding Light on Some Alien Aliases," where it was applied to a picture of[11] the Quarren Senator Tikkes.[12] The name would first be applied to the character seen in Episode II in the article "Who's Who in the Outlander Club: It's Ladies' Night," published in the seventy-fifth issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine[3] on April 6, 2004.[13] The author of the article, Daniel Wallace, commented that Ren-Quarr's name is akin to a nonalien character introducing himself as Mann Hugh and that his groomed tentacles gave him the appearance of a Rollie Fingers-style handlebar mustache.[3]
