- "The planet Lothal saw several examples of this violence while under Imperial rule. Darth Vader ordered a refugee camp, nicknamed "Tarkintown" to be burned with no records remaining as to how many refugees were casualties."
- ―Beaumont Kin in The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire
Refugee Massacre was a file kept in the Post-Imperial Lothal Archives, a series of records about the Outer Rim planet Lothal after its liberation from the rule of the Galactic Empire. The file detailed the destruction of Tarkintown, a refugee camp on Lothal ordered destroyed by the Sith Lord Darth Vader[1] during the Siege of Lothal[2] in 4 BBY.[3] A similar document, Reprisal Activities, was kept in the Imperial Archives, and between the two documents—containing notable differences in how they covered the event—no records remained on how many refugees were killed in Tarkintown's destruction. Historian Beaumont Kin referenced the file in his history book, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire,[1] in 35 ABY.[4]
Behind the scenes
Refugee Massacre was first referenced in the 2024 reference book Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, written by Chris Kempshall. It referenced[1] events from Star Wars Rebels: The Siege of Lothal, the second season premiere of Star Wars Rebels.[2]

- ↑ Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire states that thirty years have passed since the end of the Galactic Civil War and months have passed since the Battle of Exegol. As Star Wars: Timelines dates the end of the war to 5 ABY and the Battle of Exegol to 35 ABY, the in-universe The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire must have been published in 35 ABY.
