The Red Iaro were a terrorist group that operated on the planet Lannik during the Republic Era.[1] By 33 BBY,[2] Jedi Even Piell of the Jedi Order supposedly confronted the group while visiting his home planet of Lannik and engaged in battle with them. After the confrontation[1] which resulted in a victory for Piell,[3] he had lost his eye and formed a terrible scar on his face. Despite the wounds, Piell chose not to heal or conceal them, believing they were a gift for his courage and wore them proudly, seeing them as a mark of honor.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Red Iaro were mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in "Ezra Bridger and Other Users of the Force,"[1] a booklet in a series of reference booklets titled the Star Wars Encyclopedia, published by De Agostini on August 5, 2022.[4] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Red Iaro were first mentioned in twelfth issue of the comic book series Star Wars: Republic, written by Timothy Truman, illustrated by Al Rio, and published by Dark Horse Comics[5] on November 24, 1999.[6] The terrorist group later appeared two issues later in Star Wars (1998) 14, written by Truman, illustrated by Tom Lyle, and published by Dark Horse Comics[7] on January 26, 2000.[8]
