Red 2 was a T-65 X-wing starfighter in service to the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. It was assigned to Red Squadron[1] and stationed at the Rebel base on Yavin 4.[3] The fighter was piloted by Wedge Antilles during the Battle of Yavin.[1]
During the battle, Antilles piloted Red 2 into the Death Star's trench alongside Luke Skywalker and Biggs Darklighter. While providing cover for Skywalker as he attempted to launch proton torpedoes into the Death Star's thermal exhaust port, Red 2 was hit by weapons fire from pursuing Imperial fighters[3] that destroyed the X-wing's micro-maneuvering controls.[1] Antilles was forced to pull out of the trench,[3] and his nurse Red 2 back to Yavin 4.[1]
