A Rebel Prison Trooper guarding a Rebel detention facility.

Rebel Prison Troopers were specialized troops of the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. These troopers wore full body Mandalorian-styled Crusader Mark II armors and were armed with blaster weapons. They worked with tracker droids and battle droids.[1]

History

After the Battle of Yavin, Rebel Prison Troopers guarded a detention facility located in the hidden Rebel Alliance base on Corellia.[1] In 1 ABY,[2] after the base was discovered by an Imperial agent sent by Emperor's Hand Mara Jade during the Empire Day festivities, at least four Prison Troopers were killed during the Imperial assault of the detention facility.[1]

Behind the scenes

Rebel Desert Troopers were non-player characters in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[3] Desert Troopers were added to the game with the release of the "Game Update 11," published on June 23, 2009, and were present in the game during the Empire Day events of 2009,[4] 2010[5] and 2011.[6] One of the quests of this event sent Imperial players to the Rebel prison on Corellia where they had to kill various Rebel NPCs, including four Prison Troopers.[1]

  2. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
