"Oh, I cannot watch. The plummet is the most dangerous part of the race."
"They're just gliding."
"From space, Kaz. If they miss the re-ignition hoop, their engines won't come back on. They will crash."

A re-ignition hoop was a type of sky ring utilized in races[1] on the planet[2] Castilon. The hoop would re-activate the disabled engines of any racing starfighter that successfully passed through it. In one race, the Platform Classic, it was passed through by falling racers after a phase of the race known as the "Powerless Plummet," in which they climbed in altitude only for an ion pulse to disable their engines prior to descent.[1]

During one instance of the Platform Classic[1] in 34 ABY,[3] the racers Marcus Speedstar, Torra Doza, Hype Fazon, and Freya Fenris, as well as the participating mechanic Jarek Yeager, all successfully passed through the re-ignition hoop during their plummet. Racer Griff Halloran—primarily due to Speedstar's competitive piloting—missed the hoop and was forced to eject from his ship as it crashed. The mechanic Neeku Vozo worriedly informed[1] Resistance spy[2] Kazuda Xiono of the ring's importance, knowing that the pilots who did not pass through the ring would crash.[1]

Behind the scenes

"Yeah, you have to be such a skilled pilot to be able to pull yourself out of free fall, inches away from the ocean."
"The ring turns your engine on, directing you to the ocean so you have to fight g-force to stay awake."
―Myrna Velasco and Christopher Sean[4]

The re-ignition hoop first appeared in "The Platform Classic,"[1] the ninth episode of the first season of the Star Wars Resistance animated television series which premiered on November 25, 2018.[5] In the audio commentary for the episode, the voice actor of Kazuda Xiono—Christopher Sean—and the voice actor of Torra Doza—Myrna Velasco—discussed the effects of the re-ignition hoop, elaborating that it led to the pilots accelerating towards the ocean of Castilon, forcing them to fight the g-force of the plummet in order to remain conscious. The voice actors for Jarek Yeager and Neeku Vozo, Scott Lawrence and Josh Brener, also expressed apprectiation for the skill required to fly through a re-ignition hoop.[4]
