"Look, it's RB-551."
"No wonder he got blasted. He's one of those older models programmed by a central computer."
―Two battle droids, upon finding RB-551's defunct cranial unit[2]

RB-551 was a masculine programmed B1-series battle droid serving the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. One of the older units controlled by a Central Control Computer, he was destroyed during the Battle of Ryloth in 22 BBY.

Biography

RB-551 was a masculine programmed[2] B1-series battle droid[3] used for service in the Separatist Droid Army. He was one of the units in the line of battle droids that were controlled by a Central Control Computer, a model which was considered old[2] by 22 BBY. That year,[1] the Confederacy of Independent Systems invaded the Twi'lek homeworld of Ryloth, and RB-551 was among the battle droids that participated in the battle. At some point of the conflict, he was destroyed near the city of[2] Cazne,[5] the site of a major battle between the Confederacy and the Twi'lek freedom fighters led by Cham Syndulla. His remains were later found by a group of newer, independent-thinking model battle droids that were on the lookout for a missing patrol in that region. The droids reflected on RB-551's dependency on a central computer, believing themselves to be superior to him; however, they were destroyed immediately thereafter by Syndulla and his freedom fighters.[2]

Characteristics

RB-551 was programmed by a central computer, which limited his independent thinking.[2] Like all battle droids of his line, he stood 1.91 meters tall[4] and had a black-colored sensor.[2]

Behind the scenes

A quote in the official guide for The Clone Wars television series episode "Liberty on Ryloth" on StarWars.com described a scene not present in the aired cut of the episode, featuring a droid named RB-551.[5] The scene was eventually released in the episode's "Director's Cut" version, as part of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Complete Season One DVD Collection.[2]
