R5-D33R was an R5 series astromech droid optimized to function in the sub-zero environments of Hoth. He had a white, red, and gold body, and also wore a festive hat decorated with antlers.[2]

Behind the scenes

"This droid is optimized to function in the sub-zero environments of Hoth and among its dangerous creatures."
―Action figure package[2]

This holiday-themed droid is a toy that was made available exclusively at Disney Parks and on shopDisney in 2021.[2]The droid is the fifth R-series astromech in the holiday Droid Factory series.[1] In an interview with StarWars.com, Cody Hampton, who is involved in brand merchandising at Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, said that he and his team were tasked with designing a droid that could guide Santa Claus' sleigh. The crew drew inspiration from several different areas to create the toy. They knew they wanted the droid to be on a wintry planet, like Hoth, and they thought about what one might encounter there. They were inspired by Reindeer|reindeer and Ralph McQuarrie's 1979 holiday illustration where R2-D2 had antlers. The droid's color scheme was based off of a reindeer with sleigh bells.[1]
