- "Music—it's worth dying for."
- ―Quez Totark
Quez Totark was a legendary Dug composer and musician who mentored the Ortolan Maximilian Rebo and the Kitonak Droopy McCool in that field. He played a stringed instrument and taught his students that music was more important than life and death. Rebo and McCool, hoping to protect their teacher, encouraged him to retire and play for such venues as a tourist cruiser, but he did not listen.[2]
Sometime by 4 ABY,[1] Totark was killed on[2] the moon[3] Nar Shaddaa after being caught in blaster fire while busking on a street corner, fulfilling his saying that it was fitting to die for music.[2] In 4 ABY,[1] Rebo and McCool played for Jabba's Palace, and McCool played a Huttese ditty of Totark's when he noticed Rebo seemed down, matching his mood. Rebo thought about death in the world of music while working for Jabba and dreamt about Totark on at least one occasion. Totark had brown skin and wore black clothes and an eye patch.[2]
Behind the scenes
Quez Totark first appeared in flashbacks in Return of the Jedi – Max Rebo 1, which was written by Daniel José Older, illustrated by Paul Fry,[2] and published by Marvel Comics on August 9, 2023.[4]

Since the death of Quez Totark on Nar Shaddaa in Return of the Jedi – Max Rebo 1 takes place before the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, he must have died before then.
