"Okay. All right. Remember your training. Unknown life form on the hangar deck. Protocol, um… 3378. Detain, evaluate, exterminate, and…"
―FN-2187[1]

Protocol 3378 was an instruction set used by the stormtroopers of the First Order to deal with unidentified life forms. The protocol involved detaining, evaluating, and exterminating the life form while also ensuring one did not compromise oneself. At some point, Captain Phasma stressed the importance of preventing oneself from being compromised to stormtrooper FN-2187.[1]

Sometime between 28 ABY and 34 ABY,[2] FN-2187 encountered a creature from the planet GUHL-J03870 in the hangar aboard the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Finalizer. After the creature knocked[1] him[3] down, the trooper recanted Protocol 3378 to himself and remembered Phasma stressing the importance of remaining uncompromised, which he realized he had failed to do when the creature had taken his helmet.[1]

Behind the scenes

Protocl 3378 was mentioned in "Pest Control," the lead story of the third issue of the 2017 comic series Star Wars Adventures. The story was written by Landry Q. Walker and published by IDW Publishing[1] on October 18, 2017.[4]
