Portable heaters were tools used for survival; they glowed while in use. In 0 ABY, Luke Skywalker used one while on the planet Devaron just before a duel in the Temple of Eedit.[1]

The portable heater appears in Canon in Jason Fry's young 2015 adult novel The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure.[1] They originated in the Star Wars Legends source Galaxy Guide 8: Scouts''.[2]
