- "The Jedi believe in peace above all else. They won't take sides. They're not political. But they won't let this war keep going."
- ―Poan
Poan of Riek was Confederacy of Independent Systems operative during the Clone Wars. During the Clone Wars, Poan initially had faith that the diplomacy could help swiftly end the war, and that the Jedi Order could aid in this process even if the Galactic Senate and Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine were obstacles.[1]
Poan went on a mission on Leyoye Prime in a unit comprised Delsh Oquan, Baby Yezz, Seebee One, Bargaz Barnok, and Alvadorjian Soujen Vak-Nhalis, closely bonding with the latter during the conflict. During the mission, Poan killed his first clone trooper, troubling him to the point of weeping, while his teammates tries to assuage his distress. Out of their unit, Poan and Vak-Nhalis were the only survivors, although Poan would go on to perish at a later stage of the war.[1]
Behind the scenes
Poan of Riek appeared in a memory in the 2025 novel Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear, written by Alexander Freed as the first installment of the Star Wars: Reign of the Empire trilogy.[1]

Star Wars: Edge of the Abyss on Penguin Books' official United Kingdom website (backup link) establishes the events of Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear take place thirteen years before the events of Reign of the Empire: Edge of the Abyss.
Rebecca Roanhorse (@rebeccaroanhorse) on Instagram (post): "Title and updated release date of my upcoming STAR WARS novel announced at SDCC. THE EDGE OF THE ABYSS takes place a year before Andor S1." (backup link) states that Edge of the Abyss takes place a year before the events of Andor Season 1, which are set in 5 BBY per the reasoning here. Therefore, the events of Edge of the Abyss must be set in 6 BBY, and the events of The Mask of Fear in 19 BBY.
