Peeples's species

Peeples's species was a species of sentient beings with nineteen eyes and a snout-like proboscis. The species displayed a unique understanding of what was an appropriate moment to tell a joke. In 232 BBY, Galactic Republic Ensign Peeples was a member of the species who served aboard the Longbeam cruiser Aurora IX of the Republic Defense Coalition. He helped rescue the personnel of a damaged solar collection station during a disaster in the Hetzal system, for which he was promoted to lieutenant.

Biology and appearance

Peeples's species was a sentient species members of which had nineteen eyes and a needle-like proboscis in the form of a snout that served as a nose. The aliens would buzz their proboscis before speaking, and it could also vibrate intensely when they were sensing particular odors. Members of the species also had a mouth, at least one pair of arms, and at least one toe, and, when frustrated, they would emit pheromones that could be detected by the head tentacles of the sentient Nautolan species. Peeples's voice could exhibit the quality of a high-pitched, reedy whine.^[1]

Society and culture

The species of which Peeples was a member had a radically unique understanding of humor, specifically of the appropriate moment to tell jokes—which by themselves the Nautolan Finial Bright considered as often being decent enough. In lieu of a shrug, Peeples would perform a movement that seemed like an odd spasm to Bright.^[1]

Peeples's species in the galaxy

Peeples was a member of the species who served as an ensign in the Galactic Republic's Republic Defense Coalition^[1] by 232 BBY. That year,^[2] he was stationed aboard the Longbeam cruiser Aurora IX under the command of the Nautolan captain Finial Bright and alongside the human Petty Officer Innamin. The cruiser was part of the complement of the Emissary-class Republic Cruiser Third Horizon, which traveled to the Outer Rim Territories's Hetzal system after debris from the destroyed freighter Legacy Run had begun to emerge there from hyperspace at near-lightspeed, with disastrous consequences.^[1]

Peeples and the rest of the crew of the Aurora IX carried out a rescue of the personnel of a damaged solar collection station in the star system, an effort for which Peeples was subsequently promoted to the rank of lieutenant. He later assisted the Republic with the construction of a array of interconnected navidroids—used to predict the appearance of the Legacy Run's debris in other star systems—and also attended the dedication ceremony of the Republic's Starlight Beacon space station.^[1]

Behind the scenes

Peeples's species was created for the 2021 novel Light of the Jedi, written by Charles Soule as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's^[1] Phase I.^[3] Prior to the publication of Light of the Jedi, a chapter of the novel in which the species appears was published in^[4] the December 12, 2020 The High Republic Free Digital Sampler.^[5]
