The Patitites, also known as the Pattuna, were a species of diminutive sentients native to the planet Patitite Pattuna.
Biology and appearance
The Patitites were short humanoids[1] native from the swamps of Patitite Pattuna, a planet[2] from the Mid Rim of the galaxy.[3] Found on the average heigth of about 0.4 meters,[2] they had skin color varying from blue, green and purple. The shape of the heads were different between males and females.[1]
Society and culture
Though technologically primitive, Patitites were bright-minded and did had a grasp on machinery.[2] They carried powered[1] ion[4] polearms and were able to assist in repairing a downed Y-wing bomber during the Clone Wars.[1] They were socially primitive, living in a tyrannical dictatorship where all Patitites are subservient to their ruler.[2] They were puzzled about democracy.[4]
History
During the Clone Wars, the Patitites were ruled by the dictator Hay-Zu. Hay-Zu was accidentally killed by the droids C-3PO and R2-D2[1] in 20 BBY[5] when the latter stepped on him,[1] greatly unsettled Patitite society.[2] The Patitites then asked C-3PO to be their new leader. He refused and instead helped them establish their democracy and elect their new leader. As the droids left, fighting broke out amongst them pertaining to who would be the leader,[1] erupting in civil war[6] that undoubtedly doomed their society to generations of turmoil and strife.[2]
Behind the scenes
The Patitites were created as a reference to the Brownies, a similarly-sized species from Lucasfilm's 1988 sword and sorcery film Willow.[6] The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni counts himself a large fan of the film, and he also saw to it that the voices of the Patitite characters were reminiscent of those of the Brownies. However, in an effort to somewhat distinguish them from their source material, he gave the Patitites radically different colorations than the Human-looking Brownies.[7]
