A parang was a weapon after which Parang Squad was named.[1] In 88 BBY,[2] Jedi Initiates Dooku and Sifo-Dyas snuck into the Archive of Forbidden Artifacts, a prohibited section of the Jedi Temple Archives on the planet Coruscant, and saw several artifacts, with the latter wondering if he saw a parang.[3]

Behind the scenes

A parang was first mentioned in a flashback sequence in the audio drama Dooku: Jedi Lost, written by Cavan Scott[3] and published on April 30, 2019.[4] The spelling of parang was confirmed by the audio drama's script release[5] on October 1 of the same year.[4]
