P2 was a prototype astromech droid.[1] It shared its name with Industrial Automaton's P2-series astromech droid.

Behind the scenes

P2 was depicted in the 2004 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy, in a section focusing on locations from[1] the 1977 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.[2] That section was written by James Luceno and illustrated by Richard Chasemore and Hans Jenssen.[1]
