"Out of the Cradle" is a short story by Patricia A. Jackson inspired by an RPGA tournament Patricia participated in with Peter M. Schweighofer, editor of the Star Wars Adventure Journal.[3] It was published in Star Wars Adventure Journal 2 by West End Games in May 1994.
Plot summary
Against the wishes of his father, fifteen-year-old Drake Paulsen is forced to serve as a navigator aboard a smuggling vessel at the behest of a Twi'lek gangster at Socorro. Drake is aboard the Seldom Different, a ship that will serve as a decoy to his father's vessel. An Imperial cruiser inspects that Seldom Different, and an impulsive stormtrooper shoots and injures Drake for back talk. The ship is let go, and Drake recovers. The run is considered his coming of age.
