- "You have fought well, old one, but I feel your exhaustion!"
- ―An Anzati assassin compliments Oppo Rancisis' skill with his lightsaber
Oppo Rancisis's lightsaber was a Jedi weapon created by the Thisspiasian Jedi Master.[2] It had a single green blade and a cylindrical, straight, gray-colored hilt with a rectangular, jutting guard on its blade emitter.[1]
Oppo Rancisis wielded the lightsaber during his tenure on the Jedi High Council, using it in ceremonial recognition of his fellow Jedi Yaddle's ascension to the rank of Jedi Master,[3] and, later, in defense of the Jedi Temple against the Yinchorri Uprising[4] of 33 BBY.[5] During the Siege of Saleucami, a battle of the Clone Wars conflict between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems, Rancisis, now acting as a Republic strategist, used the saber in battle against Anzati assassins dispatched by Confederate Dark Jedi Sora Bulq to kill him.[1]
Behind the scenes
Oppo Rancisis' lightsaber first appeared in the second issue of Dark Horse Comics' Jedi Council: Acts of War series, written by Randy Stradley, illustrated by Davidé Fabbri,[4] and published on July 19th, 2000.[6] It was first identified by name in a StarWars.com liveblog of a Star Wars Celebration panel discussing the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, written by the StarWars.com team and published on April 16, 2015.[7]
While the cover of the 75th issue of Dark Horse's Star Wars: Republic series depicts a duel between Rancisis, wielding this lightsaber, and Sora Bulq, Bulq kills Rancisis without combat in the issue itself.[1]
Although Rancisis' lightsaber did not appear in The Clone Wars, it was pictured in concept art created on April 14th of 2012 by Pat Presley, which depicted it with a finger guard and a curved hilt modeled on Dooku's lightsaber,[7] rather than the simple cylinder of its published appearances.[1]
