Opah-bladder bagpipes were a type of musical instrument made from a blue and pink colored fish by members of the Lanai species on their homeworld of Ahch-To. The fish had brown pipes inserted into its back around a dorsal fin and one into its mouth that acted as the mouthpiece for the Lanai playing the instrument. The male Lanai fish gutter Hesper-Inguza of the Temple Island Visitors owned and played a set of opah-bladder bagpipes.[1]
Behind the scenes
Opah-bladder bagpipes were created to be a part of the film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi;[1] however, the scene they appeared in was ultimately cut before the final release.[2] Despite this, the instrument still appeared in Star Wars: The Last Jedi: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book written by Pablo Hidalgo[1] and released alongside the film on December 15, 2017.[3]
