Although this article is based on canonical information, the actual name of this subject is pure conjecture.

One of two subspecies of Gand did not need to breathe to maintain life, drawing its sustenance by absorption from its food intake. Members of that subspecies approximated speech by modulating the sounds of their flatulences.[1]
