Navaj Tarkin was a human male who lived during the High Republic Era and was the twin brother of Sevran Tarkin. The two were the children of Lord Famol Tarkin and Grand Dame Veermol Tarkin. When his sister was unsuccessful in her attempt to endorse the Zygerrian Jedi Knight Farzala Tarabal to speak to the Quintad in the Seswenna Hall, Navaj endorsed Tarabal, calling the Jedi "handsome."[1]
In 228 BBY,[3] Tarkin joined Kantam Sy and Emerick Caphtor in a mission to take back a primary planetary defense bunker that was being held by a group of Nihil Irregulars. He was able to lead the team through the local environment safely. Once inside the bunker, he examined the controls of the bunker and determined that while the primary controls were destroyed, the backups could be repaired. He called for repair techs but was informed that General Abediah Viess' fleet had already arrived in orbit. He wanted to continue to try and get the defenses back online but Caphtor realized that they would soon come under bombardment and ordered everyone to leave. During their escape, the ceiling collapsed and Tarkin was saved when Caphtor used his lightsaber to deflect falling debris. Sy received a head wound from falling debris and Tarkin told Caphtor that he shouldn't apply pressure to the wound since it could cause brain damage. He led the Jedi to the exit of the bunker but stopped when he realized it was too dangerous to leave.[2]
He stayed with the two Jedi and watched as the battle raged. He noticed a starfighter that was not only shooting down other ships, but slicing others apart with a thrown lightsaber. He brought it to Caphtor's attention, who borrowed a pair of macrobinoculars from Tarkin. The Jedi was able to identify the pilot of the ship as Porter Engle and told Tarkin that Engle was one of the best lightsaber wielders in history.[2]
