"That bomb goes off and the whole island's one big crater."
Lieutenant Bex Kolos[1]

In 3643 BBY, during the Separatist War between the Galactic Republic-backed government, the Ord Mantell Central Authority, and the insurgent Mantellian Separatist Movement, the separatists took down a Republic transport and stole a ZR-57 orbital strike bomb from its hull. Havoc Squad was assigned to retrieve the bomb.

Prelude

After the ratification of Treaty of Coruscant in 3653 BBY and the start of the Cold War, the Galactic Republic did everything it could to keep worlds from leaving it. This included rewarding and catering to local corrupt governments, like the Central Authority of Ord Mantell. This was saw as overstepping the line by local political opposants, who founded the Mantellian Separatist Movement with popular support.[4]

As they were trying to find a way to push the Republic out of Ord Mantell, the separatists managed to down a Republic transport carrying a destructive ordnance, a ZR-57 orbital strike bomb. The separatists stole the bomb before the Republic could do anything about it, and hide it somewhere on the island of Avilatan. The Republic Military was afraid the bomb could be used on the island, destroying it utterly, along with Fort Garnik, the headquarter of the Mantellian Army, and the center of loyalists efforts on the planet. To retrieve the bomb, they dispatched a veteran unit from the Republic Special Forces Division, Havoc Squad, under the command of Harron Tavus.[1]

Mission

However, the elite unit was considered unmanned by high command, and was assigned a new member, a sergeant. As he was transiting to Ord Mantell to join with his fellow commandos, his shuttle found itself in the midst of a space battle. Rushing to reach the planet, the ship finally managed to land safely on Drelliad village spaceport, where Lieutenant Bex Kolos, a member of Havoc Squad, was waiting. Both soldiers left the village in a Manka-class armored transport heading to Fort Garnik, and Kolos started to brief his younger comrade about the situation. However, he was interrupted as separatists launched an assault on Drelliad village, and managed to immobilized the APC with armor-piercing missiles. Following Kolos' order, the sergeant jumped in action to neutralize the unexpected threat. Kolos and the sergeant then walked separately to Fort Garnik.[1]
