- "There's nothing delightful or hopeful about the wasteland of a Gromas moon, day or night, with its interminable red dome. Get in and get out, that's the only point. The Empire seems to get stronger and stronger regardless. The most we can give the beast is a sharp pain in the backside.... Maybe there's a bright side after all."
- ―Kyle Katarn
Kyle Katarn undertook a mission to Gromas during the Galactic Civil War.
Background
After Kyle Katarn infiltrated the facility of Fest and stole a phrik alloy, Jan Ors tracked its sources and ended up at the moons of Gromas. She thought that the Imperial mines on Gromas 16 were related to the project.
The mission
Katarn descended toward the moon, but was immediately spotted by the stormtrooper supplement of the base. Skirmishing among the laser shots, he followed the mine's tunnels.
Kyle Katarn encounters a Phase I dark trooper for the first time.
He eventually ended up in the reactor room, and placed a sequencer charge in the Thermal exhaust port. This action, however, triggered a security system and unleashed a Phase I dark trooper, the first time Katarn finally encountered the long-heard droid, but not the last.
Katarn was able to vanquish the primal stage of the droid and hurried to the exit, where he appointed to meet with Ors and the Moldy Crow. As the Crow ascended far from the planet, the Gromas Mines exploded which, as Ors hoped, would bring a setback to Rom Mohc's plans.
Aftermath
Following Katarn's success on Gromas, Crix Madine's defection was discovered.
The Galactic Empire abandoned Gromas after Katarn's assault, leaving the skeleton of their base. However by that time, Crix Madine's defection started to be obvious and he was finally captured by Rom Mohc, who sent Madine to the Imperial Detention Center on Orinackra, where he awaited execution.
Lord Vader expressed his doubt to Mohc, explaining the threat that Kyle Katarn proved to be for the General and how he was proving to be more capable than his Dark Troopers, but Mohc dismissed Vader's implied threat and employed the services of bounty hunter Boba Fett to prevent Katarn from reaching the Arc Hammer.

"Galaxywide NewsNets" — Star Wars Adventure Journal 6 places the outbreak of the Candorian plague on Dentaal on 36:2:12, which falls in 0 ABY. The Official Star Wars Fact File 130 MAD 1-4: General Crix Madine tie together the events of Star Wars: Dark Forces and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, and Madine's own recollections in Darksaber as follows: upon learning of the Dark Trooper Project, Madine alerts the Rebel Alliance to the project's existence, thus starting the events of Dark Forces. Shortly afterwards, Madine is ordered to release the Candorian plague on Dentaal, an event which is dated to 36:2:12 per the Adventure Journal. Madine vanishes into the wilderness shortly afterwards, spending a week in the jungles of Dentaal before escaping and fleeing the planet—only to be captured almost immediately by General Rom Mohc and imprisoned on Orinackra. Kyle Katarn then frees Madine from Orinackra, and Madine is then involved in the battle at Corellia. The New Essential Chronology states that only a short amount of time passed between Madine telling the Alliance about the Dark Troopers and his defection. The length of time Madine spends on the run places his capture and imprisonment on Orinackra firmly in the month 36:3, or the first month of 1 ABY. Therefore, the events of Dark Forces prior to the mission to Orinackra fall in 0 ABY, and the remainder of the game and the battle at Corellia both occur in 1 ABY.
