The mine wars were conflicts between rival gangs of miners on the planet Kessel over the coaxium and spice found beneath the world's surface. The gangs would tunnel into each other's territories and settle their claim disputes using enforcers armed with blasters and vibroblades, leading to casualties among the miners. The wars ended prior to the criminal Pyke Syndicate taking control of mining operations on Kessel, which had occurred[2] by 10 BBY.[1]
Behind the scenes
The mine wars were mentioned in the 2025 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations, New Edition.[2] The new material in the book was written by Jason Fry and Emily Shkoukani.[3]
