Messengers of the Cold Moon

The Messengers of the Cold Moon were an organization active during the Third Galactic War dedicated to helping Force-sensitive individuals who could not, or would not, join the Jedi or the Sith. They welcomed those who were not powerful enough to be recruited, or too old to become Jedi, and taught them. They were not dedicated to either the light side or dark side, rather letting members find their own path in the Force. For example, Amity was a light-sided Force-sensitive too old to join the Jedi, so he joined the Messengers.^[1]

After the early phase of their training, students of the Messengers would go on a pilgrimage to "find their place in the Force," after which the Elders would evaluate what the student learned and give them a place in the organization.^[1]
