- "I don't know how they picked Okator VIII. It doesn't really matter, I suppose. It could have been a lot of places in the Divide. They could have picked Matabre, or Ilamna or Cortilium Major. But they didn't. They picked Okator."
- ―Baragwin sense lattice imprinted by a Republic soldier
Matabre was an astronomical object[2] located in the Eucer sector's Matabre system. It was considered a part of the Mid Rim,[1] although it was situated in the region known as the Divide during the Tionese War,[2] which was fought between the Galactic Republic and the Honorable Union of Desevro & Tion.[3] Matabre had been settled by Republic colonists by that time.[2]
A Tionese military force destroyed Republic settlements on the Divide celestial body Okator VIII shortly before the war's end[2] around 23,900 BBY.[4] At some point, a local farm boy who had witnessed the attack and had later become a Republic soldier at some point imprinted an audio-visual account of the attack in a Baragwin sense lattice, speculating that the Tionese could have just as well chosen as their target any of the other settled astronomical objects of the region, including Matabre.[2]
Behind the scenes
Matabre was originally meant to be mentioned in the 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart; however, the section that would have mentioned the astronomical object was cut before the book's release.[2]
The information regarding Matabre was later released in 2014 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a series of articles published on the StarWars.com Blog by Fry and Erich Schoeneweiss containing various cut content from The Essential Guide to Warfare.[2] The StarWars.com Online Companion to the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Matabre system, and therefore the celestial body itself, in grid square Q-7.[1]
