"Senator Mothma is organizing. She's been in touch with Senator Marjolos, Streamdrinker, Norve-Gloss, all part of the Delegation of Two Thousand."
―Chemish Runazha reports to Haki Zeophrine[1]

Marjolos was a senator of the Galactic Republic who joined the Delegation of 2,000 during the Clone Wars. After the Republic reformed into the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY, Senator Mon Mothma arranged to meet with Marjolos and twelve other members of the now defunct delegation's leadership on the planet Coruscant. At the meeting, Marjolos gathered with the other members of the institutionalists, notably older senators who prioritized the integrity of the Galactic Senate and the Republic above all else.

Mon Mothma proposed to them that they form a new coalition focused on passing the Imperial Rebirth Act, a bill designed to focus political power in the Senate rather then with Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine. Marjolos objected to the bill, which accepted the transition to the Empire, and instead stated the only course of action was to reverse that transition and restore the Republic. Mothma later mentioned Marjolos's attendance at the meeting to the Imperial Security Bureau when she was interrogated and eventually went on to pass the bill in the Senate.

"I couldn't listen in on the conversation, but she told me—she told me the sneator had a list of people to contact. I got a glimpse of her notes. I've got it all in my head. I don't know what it means or if it's useful but I've got it."
―Chemish Runazha reports to Haki Zeophrine[1]

Marjolos was a senator of the Galactic Republic's Galactic Senate who joined the Delegation of 2,000, a group of senators concerned with the amount of power that the Republic's Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine had amassed during the Clone Wars against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. He served as part of the group's leadership and became part of the clique known as the institutionalists, notably older members of the delegation who prioritized the integrity of the Senate and Republic above all else. When the war ended in 19 BBY with the Republic's transition into the Galactic Empire and Palpatine's ascension to Galactic Emperor, many members of the delegation were arrested but then released and the group became effectively defunct.[1]

Marjolos was a member of the Delegation of 2,000 during the Clone Wars.

Marjolos and other Republic senators became members of the Empire's Imperial Senate, including fellow delegation Mon Mothma. Within the Empire's first year, Mothma got in contact with Marjolos and other delegation members including Streamdrinker and Norve-Gloss. Chemish Runazha, an asset of Imperial Intelligence, learned of these interactions through surveillance of their cousin Zhuna, Mothma's aide, who mentioned Marjolos as part of a list of people the senator intended to contact.[1]

Runazha reported their findings to their handler, the Heptooinian Haki Zeophrine, in a safe house the pair used on the planet Coruscant. Zeophrine was unsurprised by the information and, after Runazha asserted the importance of Mothma beginning to organize, the Heptooinian changed the subject. She later returned to discussing Mothma and told Runazha to continue getting as much information as possible from Zuna.[1]

Internal opposition

"Now, is the time to redraw the boundaries of our coalitions. The Delegation of Two Thousand came together out of a dedication to peace and democracy. That was admirable… but ultimately ineffective. We failed because our righteous demands had no consituency. The public saw us as asking Palpatine, the one man who could save them, to abandon his power. We need a new coalition. One with the simple, unmistakable goal of fortifying political power in the Senate instead of handing it to the Imperial executive. The Emperor's rule is not supreme, and we must let it become supreme, legally or otherwise."

Runazha's suspicions about Mothma were correct, and the senator organized a meeting of twelve former members of the Delegation including Marjolos in the home of Senator Lud Marroi in the TriOpt District of Coruscant, although Marroi himself was not in attendance. Marjolos and the other institutionalists gathered around one of the building's windows and chatted as they waited for Mothma to arrived. When she did she was surprised to see the Senator Bail Organa with the institutionalists rather then the anti-militarist faction and wondered if Organa was there to swap news with Marjolos or if it was merely on a whim. She took either scenario to hopefully mean he was willing to listen to reason.[1]

After greeting the gathering and assuring them the location had not been bugged, Mothma spoke of how Palpatine was in a vulnerable position in his new role and needed the Senate, meaning he could not disband the body and giving them an advantage against him. She proposed forming a new coalition focused on fortifying political power within the Senate rather than the Emperor. This made Organa uncomfortable and Mothma could see the discomfort spreading to the institutionalists, but she continued and revealed her plans for the Imperial Rebirth Act, which would claim to clarify the new divisions of power in the Empire but in reality secure the Senate's position and prevent executive overreach by the Imperial administration.[1]

The group then began a lengthy debate over the plan, with Marjolos objecting to it in its entirety as he believed it would only leave them vulnerable to the next scheme Palpatine concocted. He claimed the only viable option was for the proclamation of the Empire to be rolled back and the Republic to be fully restored. Mothma parried and countered this and all other arguments raised, pointing out that what Marjolos was proposing was simply a repeat of the Delegation's previous strategy during the Clone Wars and that it would fail in the same way. Eventually an argument about getting justice for the Jedi erupted between Mothma and Organa, causing Mothma to ask the others to excuse them for a moment. Marjolos and the others departed and left the pair alone.[1]

Mon Mothma mentioned Marjolos's name to the Imperial Security Bureau.

Mothma and those that supported her went ahead with her plan for the Imperial Rebirth Act and began gathering votes from many factions across the Senate. After Organa was later seemingly taken hostage by the Separatist assassin Soujen Vak-Nhalis, Mothma was interrogated by the Imperial Security Bureau over her connections to him.[1]

During the interrogation she was questioned about the meeting that had taken place at Marroi's home and mentioned that Marjolos had been in attendance, assuming that the Imperial intelligence services already knew who had been there anyway. She was later released and went on to successfully pass the Imperial Rebirth Act in the Senate, although the Emperor vetoed some elements to preserve his own power.[1]

Personality and traits

Marjolos was part of a group of senators who placed the integrity of the Senate and Republic above all else. He objected to Mothma's Imperial Rebirth act, which accepted the replacement of the Republic with the Empire, and instead proposed an idea to try and restore the Republic that repeated tactics that had previously failed.[1]

Behind the scenes

Marjolos appeared in the 2025 novel Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear, written by Alexander Freed as the first installment of the Star Wars: Reign of the Empire trilogy.[1]
