"I always dance for my audience as if all that I did were to please them, but inside, I dance only for myself."
―Manaroo[1]

Manaroo was an Aruzan female dancer from Aruza. The daughter of a landowner named Abano, Manaroo traveled the galaxy from a young age, competing in dance competitions across the stars. During the Galactic Civil War, she was rescued from Imperial COMPNOR forces on her homeworld by the bounty hunter Dengar. Manaroo aided the cyborg hunter on numerous adventures in his quest to catch the elusive smuggler Han Solo. She and Dengar later married after the death of the crime lord Jabba the Hutt.

Biography

Early life

"On my world, when two people love each other, they share more than their bodies. They do more than take pleasure with each other. They bond with the Attanni, sharing their thoughts and emotions completely, sharing their memories and knowledge. All of the subterfuges between them are stripped away, and they become one person. On Aruza I was bonded to three good friends, but now…"
―Manaroo, to Dengar, in 3 ABY[1]

Manaroo was an Aruzan female from the planet Aruza. She was raised by her father Abano, a low-level bureaucrat, and a mother who made clay diningware. Manaroo's talent for dancing emerged early, earning her winning placements in galactic competitions at the age of nine. She was well-traveled; on one ocassion, she rafted through a storm on the planet Bengat, and on another she survived an encounter with pirates aboard a starliner[1]

Growing up on Aruza, Manaroo tended to dola trees on her family's farm, coaxing the near-sentient plants to release a substance that Aruzan physicians developed into an antibiotic syrup. Manaroo grew in understanding of her people through the Attanni, cybernetic implants designed on her world that allowed users to share their emotions, senses, and experiences with others. In her time on Aruza she bonded deeply with three close friends through the Attanni and grew to consider many Aruzans to be her family.[1]

Meeting Payback

Manaroo was to undergo Imperial processing on her homeworld under the Empire's "Redesign" operation. Under COMPNOR, the process would remove all kindness from her being, effectively making her a vicious servant of Imperial doctrine. It would be similar to the process undergone by the bounty hunter Dengar. Manaroo was rescued by Dengar, who killed Sinick Kritkeen, the COMPNOR overseer of Aruza. She made her way to Cloud City on Bespin to become a dancer.

Soon, Dengar came to Cloud City while hunting Han Solo. Manaroo told Dengar that Solo had been captured by Boba Fett. Once Manaroo finished talking to Dengar, Lando announced over the loudspeaker that stormtroopers were invading. She was captured by Imperials, from which Dengar freed her and took her with him to Tatooine to recapture Han Solo. While Dengar was away, Manaroo danced at a cantina, but a slaver working for Jabba the Hutt, specifically one with a large pouch in its belly he used to hold her captive in, captured and presented her to the bloated crime lord as a slave. While in Jabba's service, she was forced to dance while wearing violet leggings and a revealing top. On the night Dengar and Fett were at the Palace she danced while playing a golden flute. After Jabba's death on board the sail barge, Manaroo was freed.

Afterward, she looked for Dengar, who had been sentenced to "feel the Teeth of Tatooine," a torture that mainly caused death; captives were left out in a valley during a sandstorm to be impaled to death or mortal injury upon the sharp rocks. She nursed Dengar back to health and traveled with him to scavenge the sail barge wreck. To their surprise, they found the Sarlacc dead and a half-dead Boba Fett lying near it. Manaroo stopped Dengar from killing Boba from anger of his abuse to him and instead treated the wounded bounty hunter. Once Fett recovered, Manaroo settled down with Dengar, who asked Fett to be the best man for their wedding.
