Behind the scenes
The Magrody Institute of Programmable Intelligence was first created by Barbara Hambly for the Star Wars Legends novel Children of the Jedi, which was released in May, 1995. The institution was then first mentioned in canon in the reference book Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo and released on December 16, 2016.
