- "Parts of the ship's sensor array tower, which the Seps usually mounted aft rather than forward, appear to have come from the cruiser Lucid Voice, which saw action at Quell, Ryloth, and in a couple of other contested systems."
- ―An Imperial technician, to Moff Wilhuff Tarkin
The Lucid Voice was a Providence-class Dreadnought that served within the naval forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. Throughout the war, the dreadnought saw action in several contested star systems, such as the systems of Quell and Ryloth, and participated in a space battle alongside several Munificent-class star frigates against at least three Venator-class Star Destroyers of the Galactic Republic.
In 18 BBY, following the war's end and subsequent formation of the Galactic Empire as the successor to the Republic, the Lucid Voice was dismantled at the Bilbringi shipyards. Although dismantled, components that belonged to the dreadnought's sensor array tower were acquired by Imperial defector Berch Teller, who used them to create a downsized version of a Providence-class Dreadnought, which was later destroyed by Imperial forces near the Gulf of the planet Tatooine.
Description
The Lucid Voice was a Providence-class Dreadnought constructed in the manufacturing facilities on the planet Pammant, by the Quarren builders[5] of Free Dac Volunteers Engineering Corps.[1] Propelled by three Creveld-4 radial ion drives manufactured by Nubia Star Drives, Inc.,[2] the dreadnought was equipped with a sensor array tower[1] and a starboard hangar bay, and was also armed with weapon systems, as well as shields that were capable of deflecting laser fire from Venator-class Star Destroyers. Furthermore, the frontward sections of the Lucid Voice's hull were painted dark-grey, while its starboard side featured the emblem of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[3]
History
- "How did the appropriation teams manage to miss confiscating that ship?"
"They didn't, sir. Records show that the Lucid Voice was dismantled at the Bilbringi shipyards four years ago."
"In other words, some components of that vessel went missing."
"Lost, stolen, sold, it's impossible to say." - ―Moff Wilhuff Tarkin and an Imperial technician
Similarly to all Providence-class Dreadnoughts, the Lucid Voice was constructed in the factories on the planet Pammant.[5] During the Clone Wars, fought between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems, the dreadnought participated in engagements within several contested star systems, which included both the Quell and Ryloth systems.[1] It also took part in a space battle in orbit of a clouded astronomical object against a force of at least three Republic Venator-class Star Destroyer, where it fought alongside several Munificent-class star frigates.[3]
A year after the war's end, Lucid Voice was dismantled at the the Bilbringi shipyards, though components of the ship's sensor array tower were acquired by a group of rebels led by former Republic Intelligence officer Berch Teller. Teller and his allies utilized the discarded parts in the construction of a modified Separatist dreadnought that they used to attack the secretive Imperial facility Sentinel Base. The ship survived the encounter, and was later used by the rebels in battle with Imperial Navy near the Gulf of Tatooine.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Lucid Voice first appeared, via its components, in the new Star Wars canon in the 2014 novel Tarkin, authored by James Luceno.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Lucid Voice was first mentioned in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Incredible Cross-Sections, a 2005 reference book authored by Curtis Saxton.[6]
