"There's no need for thanks. It's the least we could do."
"I'm not thanking you. And it literally was the least you could do."
―Obi-Wan Kenobi and Leerah[1]

Leerah was a human female who lived on the planet Tharben with her husband, Vale, and their two children, a daughter and son, during the Republic Era. When the Jedi Order closed down the Jedi outpost on Tharben and the planet fell to crime, she and her husband lost their jobs and were forced to depart the planet with their children. Leerah and her family traveled aboard the Regal Voyager transport Regal Zephyr, where she encountered the Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Biography

"I was born and raised on Tharben. Bad things sometimes happened there, but I never saw them. They're in the open, now. When the factories couldn't pay protection anymore, the gangs burned them down—and Vale's and my jobs with them."
―Leerah[1]

The human female Leerah was born and raised on the planet Tharben during the Republic Era. She and her husband, Vale, both worked jobs in factories and had two young children, a daughter and a son. Although the area of the Slice near Tharben was afflicted by pirate activity, Leerah never saw any open signs on the planet. However, due to rising crime in the region, guilds began to abandon the Ootmian Pabol hyperspace route, and the Galactic Republic's subsidies for Tharben's security patrol ended.[1] In 34 BBY,[2] the Jedi Order shut down its Jedi outpost on Tharben, after which criminal activity on the planet became more prevalent. The factories eventually became unable to pay for protection, and the gangs burnt them down, depriving Leerah and Vale of their jobs.[1]

In 33 BBY,[2] Leerah and her family, alongside several other relocated individuals, departed Tharben on the Regal Zephyr, a Regal Voyager passenger transport that traveled on the Ootmian route toward the planet Coruscant. In the passenger cabin of the Regal Zephyr, Leerah was waiting for her husband to return from the galley with their children when the Jedi Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi sat in Vale's seat. Leerah brushed off Kenobi's greeting, informing him the seat was taken, and the Padawan apologized and returned to his Jedi Master, Qui-Gon Jinn.[1]

Vale returned shortly afterward with their children, having used their last meal voucher for a single food pouch, which Leerah and her family emptied in seconds. Jinn approached and offered his and Kenobi's own vouchers, claiming he had found the tokens on the ground. Leerah warily took the tokens and left for the galley with her daughter. While Leerah was absent, a trio of amateur criminals—The Lobber, Ghor, and Wungo—attempted to hijack the Regal Zephyr for the pirate gangs in the Slice. When Leerah returned, the criminals aimed their blasters at her and Vale called for her to go back. Leerah stumbled in her panic, losing her balance and dropping her daughter with a shriek. However, Jinn used the Force to catch the girl in midair, and Leerah collected her daughter.[1]
