The LC3-Skifter was a device that could be used to cheat at sabacc by enabling players to stealthily replace their hand.[1] By 3 ABY,[2] a group of smugglers had stored a skifter inside of their Cliffside Hideout in the Great Chott salt flat region of the planet Tatooine, located in the Outer Rim Territories.[1]

In 3 ABY,[2] the scoundrel Kay Vess heard about the skifter at the smugglers hideout and later retrieved it. She then used it to the create a device to include the roll of the metal dice used in Kessel Sabacc.[1]
