Biography
LA-R1 was an astromech droid that was assigned to Fedbord during the Imperial Era. LA-R1 was abducted by Jawas in the city of Mos Gofti on the desert planet of Tatooine. After waking up from being stunned by the Jawa's ion blaster, LA-R1 noted that the scavengers had removed his air-density sensors but kept his memory intact.[1]
While on the Jawa's Sandcrawler, LA-R1 got acquainted with the other droids on the vehicle such as the damaged comms droid 9R-NC. During his time on the sandcrawler, LA-R1 heard story told by a PK-series worker droid about the Oil-Bringer; an old human man who supposedly visits every planet in the galaxy once a year to oil the joints of droids and to repair them. The night that he learned of the Oil-Bringer, LA-R1 noticed the creaky joints and squeaky wheels of all the droids there and took it upon himself to make the Oil-Bringer's job easier by using the oil left in his reserves to oil the joints of all the droids and to repear them all using any scrap or surplus parts he could find, even finding a replacement arm for 9R-NC.[1]
The next morning, the sandcrawler was tipped over during an attack by a Sand elk, which caused the main ramp of the vehicle to be ripped from its hinges, allowing all the droids to escape except for LA-R1 whose battery had been drained from staying up all night tending to the other droids. The following night, LA-R1 was rescued by Obi-Wan Kenobi who freed the droid from the scrap metal pinning him down using the Force. Upon being freed by the Jedi, LA-R1 was given a fresh supply of oil and had his restraining bolt removed. He was subsequently returned to his owners in Mos Gofti by Kenobi.[1]
Equipment
The droid had red plating and a manipulator arm. He also had air-density sensors before they were removed by Jawas.[1]
