"Kyuu, you awful little fool. What are you doing here?"
"I've kept him in fish and crickets."
―The Traveler and Hanrai speak about Kyuu[1]

Kyuu was a male tooka cat who lived in the time after the Sith rebellion. He belonged to the Traveler when they were a Jedi knight serving Hanrai. Kyuu remained behind with Hanrai when the Traveler was sent to Rei'izu and disappeared on their mission. For some years afterward, Hanrai was the cat's caretaker.[1]

Behind the scenes

Kyuu appeared in the 2021 non-canon novel Ronin: A Visions Novel, by Emma Mieko Candon.[1] According to Candon, the character was inspired by her cat, named "Pidgeon." Like all names in the novel, Kyuu's name is comprised of phonemes used in the Japanese language,[2] in this case specifically chosen for being one of the readings for 鳩, a Japanese word meaning "pidgeon."[3]
