A kshyyy-vine was a nearly indestructible material used in the straps of handcrafted bowcasters. The Wookiee Chewbacca had a bowcaster with a kshyyy-vine woven strap.[1] Like all Wookiee gadgets, bowcasters were crafted from both modern technology and natural materials from the planet Kashyyyk, the Wookiee homeworld, which included kshyyy-vines.[2]
Behind the scenes
Kshyyy-vines were first created for the Star Wars Legends novel Heir to the Empire by author Timothy Zahn, though unhyphenated and spelled as "Kshyy vine." It was brought into canon when Pablo Hidalgo identified the strap on Chewbacca's bowcaster as being made from the now-renamed "Kshyyy-vines" in The Force Awakens Visual Dictionary.[1]
