- "Heh, heh. You were lucky to get through those cultists."
- ―Bib Fortuna, to a spacer
The Cult of the Krayt, best known simply as the Krayt Cult, was a cult on Tatooine that worshiped krayt dragons.
History
- "Oldksam can help you. He is hiding out in the Krayt Cult cave."
- ―Taibela, to a bounty hunter
Krayt cultists in their cave.
After the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, the cultists lived in a cave in the desert near Mos Eisley. They worshiped a large krayt dragon skull in the depth of the cave.[1] Titles or ranks in this cult included novices, acolytes, ministrants, monks and zealots.[4]
In 1 ABY,[5] Tori Radeen asked a spacer working for Jabba the Hutt to go into the cave and bring her the poison glands of bone gnashers that lived in the cave in order to create a new poison.[2] Around the same time, the Rodian Oldksam was hiding inside the cave because he thought the crime boss Faeto wanted to have him assassinated.[1] In the meantime, Officer Ellis Arrison ordered a young cadet to attack Krayt Cultists in their cave as part of his officer combat training.[6]
Behind the scenes
The Krayt Cult appeared in the 2003 massively multiplayer online roleplaying game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[7] The Krayt Cult was added to the game as part of the "Legacy Quest" with the release of the "Publish 25," a.k.a. the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005.[8]
In the cut quest "Cult of the Krayt," Brannix Tzg'ada would have tasked a spacer with eliminating Krayt cultists in the Krayt Cult Cave. This quest would have extended the background story of the Krayt Cult, revealing for example that Krayt cultists might feed their children to Krayt Dragons.[9]

- ↑ The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
