Klerin Chekkat, a Kuranu female and daughter of Mantessa Chekkat, invented a recainium-powered four-seven nullifier that the pair hoped to sell at the Valo Republic Fair. Her mother took all the credit for the invention, but was killed at the Fair during the Battle of Valo, and Klerin was rescued by Jedi after her attempt to sell her nullifier bangle to the Nihil raiders went awry. Chekkat concealed her true intentions, telling the Republic forces that the Nihil had stolen the plans for the nullifier, and went so far as to willingly play a part of a Jedi ploy to discover the Nihil base, which saw her kidnapped by the escaped Nihil Quin Amarant and taken aboard a stolen shuttle. However, upon arriving at the Nihil base on the planet Grizal and meeting with the Nihil Tempest Runner Lourna Dee, Chekkat exposed the presence of the Jedi who had snuck aboard the stolen shuttle, and offered to sell the bangle to Dee.
Biography
Klerin Chekkat was a Kuranu female who pretended to be a less capable inventor than her mother, Mantessa Chekkat. The pair hired the Tholothian mercenary Ty Yorrick to protect them as they attended the Republic Fair on the planet Valo. En route to the fair, Klerin displayed attraction towards Yorrick while toying with the large bangle she wore on one wrist. Though it appeared to be jewelry, it was actually a four-seven nullifier, a device that disrupted energy weapons such as blasters and lightsabers, powered by the illegal substance recainium. Though Klerin had invented it, her mother posed as the true inventor when meeting with Sullustan Senator Tia Toon to discuss selling it for his Defense Force Program. Toon refused to buy the device, and had Mantessa and Yorrick imprisoned for bringing recainium onto the world. The two managed to escape and got separated when Nihil marauders attacked the Valo Republic Fair, but soon after the mother and daughter were reunited, Mantessa was killed by a hragscythe that had escaped from the Lonisa City Zoo.[1]
