Karkaris was a waterworld that resided in a star system not far from the planet Mon-Cala. This planet was a homeworld for the Karkarodons, a humanoid aquatic species. They had massive jaws, razor-sharp teeth, and were fearless warriors.[3]
During the last decade of the Galactic Republic, the Karkarodons of Karkaris developed a cybernetically enhanced biological weapon that was known as the Hydroid Medusa. These immense creatures incorporated armor and powerplants that turned them into near-unstoppable engines of underwater destruction.[7]
When the Clone Wars erupted, the Karkarodons, particularly Riff Tamson, joined the Confederacy of Independent Systems in the hope that an alliance with Count Dooku could make their homeworld a significant galactic power.[6] At the same time, Karkarian biomechanical Hydroid Medusas were airdropped into the Mon-Cala oceans, giving the Separatists an advantage in the civil war that was ongoing on the planet.[4][7]
