- "How many death sticks did he give you?"
- ―Karenza Masus, to Captain Enric Pryde
Karenza Masus, known under the operating number TK-111, was a human female stormtrooper serving the Galactic Empire. She served with Captain Enric Pryde during the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. The trooper informed Pryde of the death and subsequent rebel burning of Darth Vader, and led him to the site of the funeral pyre before the two of them looked for an escape from the moon Endor.
Biography
Karenza Masus, known under the operating number TK-111 while in Imperial service,[2] was a human female stormtrooper who served with Captain Enric Pryde during the Battle of Endor[1] in 4 ABY.[4] Her low operating number apparently indicated seniority and possibly even a higher rank than other fellow troopers.[2] After being found alone in the woods by Pryde and the stormtrooper FS-451, the three sheltered together through the night following the Death Star II's destruction. As Pryde slept, Masus explored the surrounding area and witnessed the body of the Sith Lord Darth Vader burned on a pyre. Returning to her new companions, Masus informed Pryde of a discovery and led the two to the pyre.
Although Pryde did not believe that it was Vader, instead asking her how many death sticks FS-451 gave to her, Masus insisted. She covered for the Captain while he personally investigated the pyre. Pryde then ordered her to help him find Vader's lightsaber, which she questioned, asking him if he knew how to use it. When he began laughing, she slapped him across the face before lifting him from the ground by his collar. Before Masus and Pryde left to find a way off the moon Endor, she killed FS-451 at Pryde's command.[2]
According to later records found from captured First Order material, records of Enric Pryde's movements were all filed by TK-111. When later commenting on the material for his book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, historian Beaumont Kin brought up the fact that holovids of Pryde arriving at First Order installations always showed him accompanied by a stormtrooper. Kin, who appeared to be ignorant of TK-111's Imperial service, noted on the fact that TK-111 was an older Imperial stormtrooper designation rather than a First Order one. Kin also noted that the identity of the stormtrooper accompanying Pryde in the First Order installations and whether they had survived past the Battle of Exegol was still a mystery.[3]
Personality and traits
Masus was a quiet woman who at least did what she was told but later was impertinent when trying to provide answers to Pryde's questions about the moon and correcting him by informing him that they are on a moon and not a planet. She was not interested in cleaning her dirt-caked armor. Masus showed initiative in finding Vader's funeral pyre and subsequently bringing Pryde to it.[2]
Equipment
While on Endor, Masus donned stormtrooper armor.[2]
Behind the scenes
Karenza Masus appeared in the short story "The Steadfast Soldier," written by Adam Christopher and published in the 2023 anthology From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi.[2]
