An unidentified female Arcona was the wife of Kal Mpon and the mother of Kal Nkai, later known as Hem Dazon. She lived on a homestead located near their family nest. This nest was situated within twenty kilometers of a Grand Nest. When their Grand Nest went to war with an adjacent one over scarce water resources, her husband Kal Mpon made the decision to relocate their family to safer lands. To do so, they had to pass through an unfamiliar stretch of jungle wilderness. Since Kal was the most experienced water hunter in the group, he accepted the sole responsibility of bypassing plant defense mechanisms to find them water.[1]
Kal was wholly unprepared for the hostile wildlife that inhabited the jungle and was killed by a plant with a neurotoxin defense mechanism. With no stored water and no means to extract it from the hostile plants of the jungle, Kal Nkai and his mother grew desperate. With no other options, they decided to offer their labor to off-worlder prospectors in exchange for water. Kal Nkai supported his mother by working as a package runner. When Kal discovered that the packages contained salt, an illegal narcotic on Cona, he decided to play ignorant because he felt he had a responsibility to take care of his mother.[1]
After he became addicted to the salt he was transporting, Kal decided he wanted to leave Cona to see the off-worlder's oceans of salt water on their homeworld. Kal briefly fabricated the benefits of his leaving to his mother and wished her farewell before joining them on their journey across the galaxy. By the time Kal reached Tatooine, his mother had died from unknown causes. Upon hearing the news, Kal's grief and helplessness drove him from the ship and into Chalmun's Cantina where he mourned for four days straight. When the prospectors couldn't get him to budge, they stranded him on Tatooine. Kal Nkai would remain in the cantina where he wallowed in pity.[1]
