K'ar Zah

K'ar Zah was a scientist who lived during the Galactic Civil War. After the Battle of Yavin, Zah was the Chief Scientist of the Imperial Academy of Science and Methodology.[1] As of 1 ABY,[2] K'ar Zah was working on an article titled "The Superiority of Sentience: Nature's Deadliest Weapon". As Zah was in need of further case studies for his work, the scientist searched for courageous individuals to face some of the galaxy's most dangerous predators, armed with simple vibroweapons and/or primitive slugthrowers. According to Zah's theory, in eight out of ten encounters the sentient hunter would emerge victorious.[1]

K'ar Zah was mentioned in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[3]

Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
