- "Learned that little move from a k'Jtari pirate."
- ―Sana Starros, to Leia Organa
The k'Jtari were a group whose members were trained in unarmed combat. By 0 ABY, a k'Jtari pirate taught a technique to the human smuggler Sana Starros, which she used to subdue the rogue archaeologist Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra, who was attempting to escape custody from the Rebel Alliance.
Description
The k'Jtari were a group that inhabited the galaxy. Members of the group were trained in unarmed combat, including a technique consisting of an individual using an arm to hit another individual on the back of their neck.[1] Another skill was an individual shifting their weight slightly.[2]
History
By around 18 BBY,[3] the human[4] clone Tech had learned the k'Jtari technique that involved an individual shifting their weight slightly.[2] Around that year,[3] while Tech fought the Kiffar Parlin on a yacht, Parlin twisted Tech's arm into a leverage maneuver that the clone felt threatened would dislocate his shoulder. He then used the skill he had learned to ease the strain on his shoulder, before escaping the Kiffar's hold of him.[2]
Sana Starros performed the move the k'Jtari pirate had taught her on Chelli Lona Aphra.
At some point by 0 ABY,[5] a k'Jtari pirate taught the technique consisting of an individual using their hand to hit another on the back of their neck to the human smuggler Sana Starros.[1] That year,[5] while en route to the Rebel Alliance's Sunspot Prison, Starros used her k'Jtari training to immobilize the rogue archaeologist Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra, a rebel prisoner who was attempting to escape custody. Afterward, Starros informed rebel Princess Leia Organa of where she had learned the move.[1]
Later that year,[6] Aphra created a recording for Starros that she intended the smuggler to hear after her death. During the recording, the archaeologist recounted a number of events in her life, including the time Starros performed the technique to stop Aphra from escaping and her subsequent mention of the K'Jtari pirate who had taught her it.[1]
Behind the scenes
The k'Jtari were first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the sixteenth issue of the 2015 comic series Star Wars. The issue was written by Jason Aaron and published by Marvel Comics[7] on February 17, 2016.[8] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the k'Jtari were a species created by Paul Danner for Wretched Hives of Scum & Villainy, a 1997 expansion of Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[9]
