"A tradition of the ages. But one that changes with every year. As you have learned with Master Radorm, tournaments of the past have been held underwater."
―Tera Sinube[1]

The Jedi Tournament[2] was a ceremonial lightsaber duel held annually at the Jedi Temple. Its purpose was to help Initiates demonstrate their aptitude in the Force and to help them be noticed by Jedi Masters willing to accept a new Padawan. The tournament had traditionally taken place in the Jedi Temple's training gallery, but sometimes it was held underwater or in zero gravity. Jedi Initiates at the Temple prepared for this test, since failure would result in repetition for second year. At some point, the Jedi Master Radorm attended the tournament that was held underwater.[1]
