The title of this article reflects a partial identification revealed in a Star Wars source.

This article's title is derived from the part of this subject's name that is present in a canonical source.

The Mandalorian foundling and bounty hunter Jango Fett was instructed by a mentor[1] sometime before the former's death at the First Battle of Geonosis[2] in 22 BBY.[3] A portion of the mentor's name was recorded within the chain code of Jango's clone son, Boba, in which it was written in the Mando'a script. The name was partially spelled as "Jaste."[1]

Behind the scenes

The mentor's name was encoded within Boba Fett's chain code.

The mentor's name was encoded within Boba Fett's chain code.

The mentor was mentioned on a hologram in "Chapter 14: The Tragedy" of Jon Favreau's Disney+ series Star Wars: The Mandalorian, directed by Robert Rodriguez[1] and released on December 4, 2020.[4] The character's name was partially obscured within the episode, which made it difficult to determine the individual's full name.[1]

In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Jango Fett's mentor was Journeyman Protector Jaster Mereel, who first appeared in flashbacks in the comic Jango Fett: Open Seasons 1, written by Haden Blackman, penciled by Ramón F. Bachs, and published by Dark Horse Comics[5] in 2002.[6]
