- ―Jad Bean
Jad Bean was a Human male Death Star trooper Sergeant who served inside the control room of the second Death Star during the Battle of Endor.[1]
Biography
- "Inform the commander that Lord Vader's shuttle has arrived."
"Sir." - ―Endicott and Bean

At some point by 4 ABY, Bean became a Death Star trooper and earned the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed in the Death Star command center, where he was in charge of lowering the Battlestation's deflector shield so ships could arrive. He was on duty during Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader's arrival aboard the battlestation, in which one of Vader's shuttle pilots, Captain Yorr, contacted the control room and asked them to lower the deflector shield. Bean, noticing the shuttle had a class-one priority ranking, was initially unsure of how to proceed and called over Lieutenant Endicott, who immediately recognized the shuttle as Vader's.[3] Bean confirmed the shuttle's code transmission and deactivated the shield, clearing the ship to proceed. When the shuttle docked, Endicott ordered Bean to inform the battlestation's commander, Moff Tiaan Jerjerrod, about Vader's arrival aboard the station.[1]
During the final stages of the Battle of Endor, Bean replaced another trooper at a duty post containing the station's superlaser firing switch and revolution controls, as Jerjerrod commanded him to begin rotating the battlestation so it could fire upon Endor's moon, at the order of Emperor Palpatine.[1] Bean likely fled his post or was incapacitated by the Rebel ships when they began bombarding the Death Star, as Jerjerrod himself took control of the superlaser's firing switch when it was set to fire on the moon.[3]
Equipment
Jad Bean wore the standard uniform for Imperial Navy troopers.[1]
Behind the scenes
Jad Bean was played by Stuart Fox,[4] whose role was uncredited in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.[1]
Although he appeared in Return of the Jedi, the character was not given an identity until the release of the Death Star Owner's Technical Manual, where he was named after fan Jad Bean, who is the founder of the Star Wars Micromachines page on Facebook.[5] The photo representing him in the manual, however, was from a deleted scene from Return of the Jedi.
